Dolinka, Smith, & VanNoord started in 1982 as an outgrowth of Marvin Dolinka’s practice with Smith & VanNoord; a firm formed by Harold Smith and Ken VanNoord. The firm’s name was officially changed to Dolinka, VanNoord & Company after the retirement of Harold and new partner additions.

Today, the firm has five partners and seventeen team members. At DVC we are more than your typical accountant, we look at ourselves as business coaches for privately-owned businesses. The DVC Team is made up of experienced professionals who strive to build lasting, supportive relationships with our clients. We listen to our clients and place the focus on their needs and goals.

Robert J. Brouwer, CPA
Managing Partner

Bob came to Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1986. He was admitted to the partnership in 1996 and in 1997 he succeeded Ken VanNoord as the firm’s managing partner, a position he still holds today. Bob earned his degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Calvin College in 1985. His experience covers a wide range of industries including real estate development, trucking companies, manufacturing, construction and automobile dealerships. Bob is a life-long Grand Rapids resident and has worked with Grand Rapids area clients since he began his accounting career.

Larry E. Roslund, CPA/ABV, CVA
Partner, Director of Taxation

Larry joined Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1996 and became a partner in 1997. He has been in public accounting for over 30 years. Prior to joining DVC, Larry spent time as a tax partner with BDO Seidman (1978-1990) and with the audit and tax staff of Arthur Anderson and Company (1970-1978). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Alma College in 1970. As the Director of Taxation, he has published articles and training manuals and taught numerous seminars on taxation and business valuation. He has conducted valuation engagements for a wide variety of industries and has been called upon as an expert witness in litigation support. Larry has lived and worked with clients in the Grand Rapids area since 1978.


Bruce A. Jelsema, CPA, MBA
Partner, Director of Accounting and Auditing

Bruce came to Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1985. Previously, he spent eight years at BDO Seidman (1977-1985). He became a partner with the firm in 1991. Bruce earned his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College in 1975 and his MBA from Michigan State University in 1977. As the Director of Accounting and Auditing, Bruce has led many seminars on industry pronouncements and standards, including Sarbanes-Oxley. His professional experience covers a wide variety of industries. Bruce is a lifelong Grand Rapids resident and has worked with Grand Rapids area clients since he began his accounting career.


Patrick J. Leikert, CPA, CFP®
Partner

Pat began working with Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1985. He joined DVC after spending six years with a local firm on the east side of Michigan. Pat became a partner in the firm in 1996. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University in 1980. Pat’s background includes a wide variety of accounting, auditing and tax experiences. He works with small businesses in a variety of ways, primarily working in the accounting area. Pat has worked with many industries, from manufacturing to condominium associations. Pat is also a member of the West Michigan Estate Planning Council. Pat has lived and worked with clients in West Michigan since his arrival at DVC in 1985.

Donald S. Dubbink, CPA, MBA, CVA
Partner

Don joined Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1987 after spending three years with the audit staff at BDO Seidman (1984-1987). His other accounting experience includes being a member of the audit staff at Ross, Boge, Dedloss, & Ross (1982-1984). Don became a partner with the firm in 1996. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University, and he earned his MBA from Central Michigan University. Don has been involved in many different accounting activities for DVC and our clients. He has accounting experience that covers a wide range of industries from real estate development to automobile dealerships. Don is a life-long resident of West Michigan.

Amanda L. Bain, CPA

Amanda came to Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2001. Prior to joining the DVC team, she spent four years in private industry accounting (1996-2000) and two years with a local CPA firm (2000-2001). She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Davenport University in 1999. Amanda specializes in the accounting and auditing area, particularly employee benefit plan audits. She has been a resident of the Grand Rapids area since 1995.

Debra A. Boeve, CPA

Deb began her career at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1988. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree in 1988 from Calvin College. Deb has worked with real estate developers, the trucking, manufacturing and construction industries, retail sales companies, automobile dealerships, not-for-profit organizations and professional service organizations. Deb is a life-long Grand Rapids area resident.

Melanie S. Buys, CPA

Melanie began her career at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2002. Prior to coming to DVC, she spent four years in private industry accounting. Melanie earned her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree in 2002 from Calvin College. She works with automobile dealerships, mortgage companies and audits of employee benefit plans. Melanie has lived and worked in Grand Rapids her entire life.

Shawn L. Chapin, Office Manager

Shawn started her career working for Marvin J. Dolinka, CPA, while attending Grand Rapids Community College, where she earned her degree in accounting, and she stayed with Marv’s firm for seven years. After spending time raising her family, she returned to work with Marv’s firm, at the time Dolinka, Smith & VanNoord, in 1988 and has been with the firm ever since. Along with being the Office Manager, Shawn oversees the write-up and bookkeeping department, is the co-computer administrator for Dolinka, VanNoord & Company, and is experienced in a variety of accounting software packages. Shawn has lived in the Grand Rapids area all of her life.

Susan C. Harmon

Sue began working at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1991. She has earned a degree from Ferris State University. Sue is part of the administrative staff at DVC. Her telephone and office expertise is an integral part of the office operations throughout the year, but is most heavily relied on during tax season. Sue is a life-long resident of the Grand Rapids area.

Ryan M. Grasmeyer

Ryan began his career at Dolinka, Van Noord & Company in 2008. He graduated from Calvin College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree. Ryan is a life-long resident of Grand Rapids.

Craig W. Lawton, CPA

Craig began working at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2004. He graduated from Hope College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Craig has worked with not-for-profit entities, the manufacturing and real estate industries and with employee benefit plans. He is a life-long resident of West Michigan.

Justin R. Lemmen, CPA

Justin started his career with Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2004. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree from Calvin College. Justin has dealt with a wide range of industries in his accounting career. He is a life-long West Michigan resident.

Hilary K. Roelofs

Hilary has been with Dolinka, VanNoord & Company since 2001. Prior to working with DVC, she spent three years working in accounting in the manufacturing industry. Hilary earned her Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting in 2001. She has experience in payroll, monthly accounting, other software assistance, and she is a QuickBooks Certified Pro Advisor. Hilary is a lifelong Grand Rapids area resident.

Cindy J. Pierce

Cindy started working at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1997. Before working for DVC she had eight years experience in the private sector. Cindy earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Grand Valley State University in 1997. Cindy is experienced in payroll, monthly accounting, QuickBooks, Peachtree and Creative Solutions work in a variety of industries. She is a life-long West Michigan resident.

Leigh A. Rowley, CPA, MBA

Leigh came to Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2004. Leigh brought a wealth of experience which includes four years with Osbourne, March, Condon & Co. (1992-1996), three years with the Rehmann Group (1996-1999), three years with BDO Seidman (1999-2002) and four years in private industry (1991-1992 and 2002-2004). Leigh earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College in 1991 and an MBA from Grand Valley State University in 2005. Leigh has worked with automobile dealerships, real estate developers, oil and gas companies, hotels and restaurants, manufacturers and high net worth individuals. Leigh has been a resident of West Michigan since 1999.

Sandie Shepherd

Sandie started working at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1996. She has past experience working for a CPA firm with Robert J. McBain & Co. (1992-1996). Sandie earned her degree in Interior Design from Kendall College. Sandie is part of the administrative staff at DVC. Her expertise is used throughout the year, but is most heavily relied on during tax season. Sandie has lived and worked in Grand Rapids since 1961.

Ronda K. Smith, CPA, MBA

Ronda began at Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2005. She comes to DVC with four years experience with a local CPA firm in West Michigan. Ronda earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Grand Valley State University in 2002 and her MBA from GVSU in 2005. Ronda has worked with a variety of industries in her public accounting career. She is a life-long resident of the Grand Rapids area.

Chad A. Tejchma

Chad began his career with Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2006. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Grand Valley State University in 2005. Chad has worked on financial statements, as well as tax returns for businesses and individuals. Chad is a life-long resident of West Michigan.

Debra L. Truer, CPA

Debbie joined Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 1998. Prior to coming to DVC, she spent 18 years in the private sector as an accountant for several retail companies. Debbie earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Grand Valley State University in 1999, and her background includes a variety of auditing and tax experiences. She works with retail clients, construction companies, not-for-profit organizations, real estate developers, and condominium associations. She also has experience in QuickBooks and Peachtree consulting, implementation and training. Debbie is a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids.

Todd J. Van Kuiken, CPA

Todd started working with Dolinka, VanNoord & Company in 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hope College in 2002. Todd has worked in the agriculture, real estate, construction, and health care industries. Todd has been a West Michigan resident since 1996.
